Before we begin with the some positive dad news, my heart is broken over the shooting death of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, and the attack on fellow state Senator John Hoffman and his wide Yvette. The alleged attacker was Vance Boelter, who subscribes to a particular Christian nationalist ideology that sought to kill supporters of abortion care. Jessica Valenti reports that he had a “hit list” in his car “with over 70 names, including abortion providers, abortion rights activists, and pro-choice politicians in Minnesota and other states.

Boelter also gave several sermons at an evangelical church in Congo, including one where he blasted American churches for not taking a harder stance against abortion:

“They don’t know abortion is wrong, many churches. They don’t have the gifts flowing. God gives the body gifts to keep balance. Because when the body starts moving in the wrong direction, when they’re one, and accepting the gifts, God will raise an apostle or prophet to correct their course.”

Shortly after, he added, “God is going to raise up apostles and prophets in America to correct his church.”

As of this morning, he still hasn’t been caught.

On to better news: Dads are awesome — and they’re just like us! A recent poll of 1,000 voting men found that they overwhelmingly support policies that let them spend more time with their kids and take care of their elders, through the kinds of paid leave policies that exist in most other countries.

”It turns out men across party lines and different walks of life overwhelmingly want government policies that allow them to be actively involved in their families — and this is connected to their ideas of masculinity, not contrary to it."

The incels, the political pissing contests, the misogyny of the tech broligarchy: these are real and powerful political forces dominating much of our lives today.
