Do men not get that MAGA is an anti-men agenda?
Do you enjoy having sex without having a kid? Then vote for Harris. Also: Phonebanking, dirty soda sweeps the nation, DesignMom v. Sharon McMahon, and more in the links.
The mainstream media keeps reporting that this election is “defined by gender.”
I find this to be an awfully vague and irresponsible way of saying “the citizenship, humanity, and lives of anyone born with a uterus are on the line if the convicted rapist and fascist in chief wins.”
Every time someone calls this out I feel relieved, and a little less gaslit. This week it was Michelle Obama in an iconic speech in Kalamazoo, that’s likely to go down in history for its vulnerability and truth-speaking and for saying words like “menstruation” in mixed company.
She made a plea directly to men to stand up for women:
“Please, please do not hand our fates over to the likes of Trump, who knows nothing about us, who has shown deep contempt for us, because a vote for him is a vote against us,” she said.
“And let me tell you all, to think that the men that we love could be either unaware of indifferent to our plight is simply heartbreaking. It is a sad statement about our value as women in this world…So fellows, ask yourselves, what side of history do you want to be on?”
This comes on the heels of new data that shows that while young Gen Z women are breaking in record numbers for Harris, more Gen Z men are starting to lean into Trump-Vance. Some reporting on this has overstated the case a bit, Gen Z and adults under 30 is still the most progressive generation by far, but it’s not exactly heartening!
And let’s remember: White women are nearly evenly split between Harris (44 percent) and Trump (40 percent), so my demographic is not exactly pulling its weight either! (Some ideas on addressing that in the links below).
This seems like a good time to remind everyone, or shout from the rooftops if need be, that the Republican party platform has become a bizarre, Christo-fascist patriarchal manifesto based on extreme female sacrifice and suffering.
And that is bad for MEN.
Cutting off birth control and abortion is an anti-sex agenda.
Forcing men to pay for children that they don’t want or can’t afford is an anti-men agenda.
Forcing teen boys into parenthood is an anti-men agenda.
Legalizing homophobia in the workplace is an anti-men agenda.
Repealing and limiting no-fault divorce and trapping men in unhappy marriages is an anti-men agenda.
Making IVF illegal “because people shouldn’t delay getting pregnant” is bad for men who want to become parents.
Cutting off funding for birth control and responsible sex education and replacing it with messages to “get married” is bad for men who aren’t ready to be partners or parents.
And as has pointed out—canceling Plan B birth control is going to make casual sex a thing of the past.
It should go without saying that men whose children and wives are forced to give birth also suffer, and men whose children, daughters and wives have their lives put at risk when they can’t get healthcare also suffer.
But somehow the MAGA pitch seems to be that the more women suffer, the more men benefit. That’s an obvious lie because our lives, especially our intimate bodily lives and family lives, are intertwined with one another.
There’s no making women vulnerable without making men, boys, and children vulnerable.
That should seem obvious, but apparently that’s not as obvious as it should be.
As has pointed out in her book “Ejaculate Responsibly,” men are responsible for 100% of unwanted pregnancies. Therefore, men are both impacted by unwanted pregnancies as well as responsible for them, as much as we like to pretend that’s not the case. The notion that woman are the ones responsible for and therefore the only ones impacted by unwanted pregnancy is a sham, and one that’s harmful to women and men (and children).
And I would also just like to make one more humble addition to this list that bears repeating: Fascism and dictatorship are also bad for men!
Now, to the links! Which offer some literal palate cleansers and ideas to get us through these next days:
To actually do something with your election anxiety, take action in these crucial last days. I joined Mobilize to phone bank and friendbank and you know what? Seeing hundreds of strangers on those Zoom calls all trying to help made me feel great. Old ladies from Wisconsin and young men from Arizona were all in there together doing the work.
Need help talking to friends? Convince an unsure friend to vote for Harris using
’s thoughtful conversation starters and talking points ready to use on undecided voters and the time is right now. It’s not too late, and research shows that influence actually has more impact than news. aka became a hero in my book this week by low-key pointing out the both-sidesing of popular political influencer Sharon McMahon (McMahon stans please at least read her post before coming at me! :) by asking: in an election in which our humanity is at stake, to whom do we owe our respect?“I can’t get past that part where the person doesn’t feel compelled to do everything they can to vote against Trump; to make sure Trump, and all that he stands for, loses by a landslide.”
