As a writing and journo prof, I have to say that rarely have I seen an analysis of the celebrity profile better than Sara Petersen’s take on the puff pieces that the NYT is churning out on celebrity tradwife Hannah Neeleman of Ballerina Farm fame.
The Neelemans hired a PR agency after their disastrous profile in the Times of London this summer, and the team is working overtime and earning their money. Is the mainstream press responding, post-election when women’s rights are about to be historically attacked in this country, with even a grain of skepticism?
Nope, they are pretty much unabashedly fangirling. Which tells us pretty clearly—buckle up, ladies! The mainstream press is not coming to defend you or your rights as we head into the next four years. (Is Ross Douthat running the whole place now?)
