Weekly Group Chat: What are you doing to stay grounded and have...fun?
Give us your recs, your Severance and White Lotus deep dives, your Chappell Roan dance bops.
Hello friends, we’re trying something different this week and doing subscriber group discush here in a bigger post format, mostly so that I can include more links—and by that I mean mostly sharing a video of Jon Batiste riffing on “Hot to Go” (see below).
What are you doing right now to stay grounded and have fun?
Here’s what I got lately:
This week I wrote about drawing and painting with my kid (I can’t actually paint or draw, but it’s fun to do and that’s the point), and how creativity and care keep me tethered to the stuff that matters rn. Also: cuddling under a blanket is life-giving. I highly recommend both.
I’m obsessed with Severance on Apple TV right now. Premiere TV is a key coping mechanism for me lately, and wow I am loving watching Severance and then spending too much time on Reddit threads following fan theories. It gives me something to look forward to, and I’m actually kind of loving that I have to wait a week between episodes to see what will happen, like old TV-times. (It’s high times for me because the new White Lotus season is also out, and I want to watch White Lotus allll the time).
Dance bops are always a mood booster for me, and Chappell Roan’s “Hot to Go” is one of my go-to’s. If someone were to check the cameras in my building’s little makeshift gym room they might, um, see a woman rocking out to Chappell Roan on the stationary bike and doing little dance moves between weight sets. This video of Jon Batiste hearing “Hot to Go” for the first time and then instantly getting it and doing his own riff is 100% guaranteed to put a smile on your face. I got this from a reader named Erin on one of Garrett Buck’s posts. TY guys! “That snare drum, it’s so liberating!” 100% delightful.
What are you all doing to stay grounded and have fun right now? We gotta have strategies!
Stayed up late the past two nights reading one of my kid's YA novels! It wasn't exactly beach reading but it was a way to take my mind of all the drama of this terrible moment! Also I have been out to two delicious meals with friends this week and really trying to nourish all the connections that mean so much to me!
Planting seeds indoors. The first hint of spring is in the air but I know it will be awhile before I can do much outside so I’m planting seeds indoors and getting my hands dirty in the best way possible. 🥰 Nature persists. So will I.
