The uncertainty of parenting in these times really spoke to me. I think about it allll the time. Most of us didn't know we were signing up for this when we had kids and have no preparation for how completely bonkers things have become so quickly!
I love this idea of becoming comfortable with "taking risks" for our kids and for ourselves as a way to build healthy resilience, and supporting each other in those risks without shame.
I really loved this idea too! And that trying to give our kids the childhood we had (or didn’t have) can really miss the point of what our kids need right now!
Ack, right?! I love the idea of the question but in my darker moments I'm afraid someone would be like, videogames? 🤦 But I think we've got other things going for us, too.
Hi Nancy! So great to see you here! I loved speaking with Gabrielle about her book and the question of carrying a family culture was fascinating to me. She suggested that we think about about people would describe our family which made me think, like, how are we showing up in the world? What are we prioritizing? I know there are things I care about so much that I’m not sure are all that active in my family life — like, would other people say “oh yeah, Allison’s family really values music/art/being of service/great food” etc. It was helpful to me to think about that — especially in terms of what I do with my family on a day to day basis and whether those everyday things are in line with the things I truly value….

What a great conversation! The piece around family culture is so smart and helpful.
Agree. Got me thinking about family culture vs. family values. What would someone say about my family culture? Do we... have one??

Oh that's great — so it's like, how do the things that you value actually show up in your family life? (And hi!)
Exactly! Really bringing conscious reflection in. I thought this was a good thing to think about as the new year got underway....
Love this! Thank you!
Thank you for reading, Carley :)
