About a week ago my inbox started to get clogged with invitations to Women’s History Month events — from all-female DJ dance parties to “Sip and Shop” gatherings hosted by high-end designers.
Some were extremely serious: my local City Councilperson gathered advocates who organize against domestic violence. Others were a bit more intimate: "Join a pelvic floor discussion with Shari of Good Hart PT.”
I thought of the origins International Women’s Day: The immigrant women workers who walked out of garment factories in New York at the turn of the 20th century.

I see clear improvement for professional women who are highly sought. One difficulty is in getting promotions, women are often sought for as placeholders and once in place, men get promotions. That was my experience in the 80’s. I wonder if that has improved in three decades.
I used to think of IWD as a better version of Mother’s Day, more inclusive and unencumbered and cool. But rn it feels like a lot, doesn’t it? It feels like we are fighting against dehumanization on several fronts and it’s a lot on the heart, tbh!
