Oh man I have so many decades of salty feelings about Mother's Day. Before I had kids, I resented/dreaded the holiday bc I was raised in a culture where the only worth or role for women was in bearing and raising children, so I had to do a lot of work to build my own worth as child-free woman. I finally published a whole essay about it that was cathartic :) https://www.sltrib.com/opinion/commentary/2019/05/11/commentary-please-stop/

Now I have a whole separate set of feelings, but it mostly comes down to what you say here--being a mom or parent shouldn't be depleting, like you're the tree from the Giving Tree and you just sacrifice until you're a stump. Thriving as a mom or parent shouldn't be something reserved for the most privileged.

"But what do I really want for Mother’s Day? A system that supports us all." 💯 💯 💯
