This is so good and so needed. Climate anxiety is never not buzzing in the back of my life at all times. It feels so insurmountable, and this helps. I keep thinking about joy lately, esp this week, it feels so hard to get it and hang on to it. I think you're right that we have to cling to it and believe that we deserve it.

YES. Getting real is so necessary to counteracting a culture of performative idealism. Thank you, Allison. Me? I'm not vegetarian, much less vegan. But I do make Indian foods and other dishes that are vegan or vegetarian, and I like, so cutting down on meat. When I buy meat, I buy local and pastured: It tastes better, it's healthier, it's better for the animals than large-scale production, and the cost ensures that I cook it far less often, and extract every bit of value. That $20 chicken also provides enough stock for at least five meals of soup.
