So many great points here! Yes, we want to generally have a positive outlook BUT it’s also crucial to our mental health and to finding meaningful solutions to acknowledge how bad things are and feel. Things will eventually get better for a lot of us but for many people it sucks right now.

Yes yes YES (I scream, while masking in my own home because I have COVID and no one else does and I'm DESPERATE to keep my kids at school). With you.

I appreciated the reference to and reminder about “toxic positivity” here, as well as the reminder to do things I know work for me and that I love. The unflinching honesty of The Matriarchy Report is helping me keep it real.

Such a great take and really gets at why "rugged individualism" isn't going to get us through a global pandemic! Why should we have to drive around looking for tests (we shouldn't!). Why should we put on a happy face and just think positive when the world is literally falling apart? (We shouldn't!) And I love the reminder that the things that truly bring joy are connected to community and to nature -- connection is key, especially after all this isolation!

Oh Lane, I am so sorry for your well-founded woes. I wish I could gift you a “do-over” for the holidays but your clever and candid message has given me a much needed laugh today and I thank you for that!

“Growing beards and eating food off the floor…” 😂

This is a refreshing (and much needed) take on the weight that all of us are feeling right now. I’ve cycled through all the emotions and have settled on something between blind determination and road rage. 😏

I needed this today. In Ontario, Canada, we got news two days ago that schools are back online, gyms and indoor dining are closed, and we are limited to gatherings of 5 people. Oh, and it was -15 C outside when I read the press release. I swore. And then I went into mom-work mode and just started making plans because that's the only thing I could do to keep myself from crying with my kids (who were all crying). I called two mom friends with only children. "Send your kids to my house tomorrow. They can do online school together and at least have two friends around." Bless them, we all found rapid tests and now their kids are in my loft. So that's something. But when my husband asked me how I felt at the end of the day, I responded, "You know the horse in Neverending Story? The one in the swamp?" "Yes," he replied. "2022 might be the year of the Tiger for Lunar New Year, but it's the year of Artax for me."
