It is easy (even for me, a lesbian) to think, “oh but that doesn’t affect me directly,” and so not want to think about it. I say this just to be honest, not because I think it is a helpful response—and this poem helps me remember that everyone’s rights and bodily autonomy are important, critical, and must be protected.
Sex is real, material and fundamental to our rights as women and girls. Forcing women to disrobe in front of, compete against and be jailed with males is not progressive.
I don’t want Nancy Mace and Mike Johnson sending anyone to look down anyone’s pants.
Amen!
Thank you for reading!!
Great piece! I'm writing one about rape culture in the White House right now. Horrifying.
Thank you! Cannot wait to read what you have to say on this Jo-Ann!
While I am likely preaching to the choir here, this makes me think of an important favorite poem: https://images.app.goo.gl/weNJ3poiUseC3HKE7

Shame on the women seeking to destroy our safe single sex spaces for our safety dignity and modesty.
