Thank you so much for this Lane. So moved by your reflections and tracking the changes in your own life as it relates to the political life of the country….and thank you for validating *all* the feelings
Your words are exactly what I need to hold in my heart today and moving forward. I've lived in your former red state my entire life, so it is awfully lonely to navigate today. Thankfully, we can rely on each other for community through your forum, and I'm sure grateful for it.
I'm listening to Christmas music today. I can still feel some love and joy from some of those old songs. Here's to everyone out there who are hurting....Remember George Bailey (corny, I know) but his kindness to others throughout his life is what saved him when trouble came. Love is where we give it.
It’s true, there are! Just not enough to win, but we DID get close. That’s why the idea of a ‘mandate’ is so galling. Sure he swept the swing states, etc etc… but… there are A LOT of people who didn’t vote for him in every state.
The thing that gets me is that we know there’s always going to be one side who wins and one who doesn’t. It’s a contest. But… I’d have more respect for the current winning side if they had managed to put forth a legit candidate. One that doesn’t make me feel like I’m a participant in a reality show on steroids.
My daughter is black, white, and Japanese- I am biased, but I think she’s the most beautiful 5 year old, and I worry so much about what this is going to mean for her future.
Of course she's absolutely gorgeous! I feel you so much on this, I think parents everywhere and esp of girl children are crushed. It's a hell of a time to parent, and tbh, it's exhausting. I am *constantly* trying to optimize our lives to limit exposure to harmful things/people and make us as safe and comfortable as possible. Everything--from what school we go to, to where we live to where we vacation/travel is informed by this. I don't have easy solutions but just want to acknowledge that it's a lot and it shouldn't be this hard.
I do think having a very supportive and loving parent goes a LONGGG way and is one of the most important things in life. And you clearly are that!!
Thank you for this, Lane ❤️ I’m still processing as well but also am thinking about how to use this rage and grief to shape and sustain resistance these next few years.
Thank you, Lane. Love that 'dog shit' story! Big hugs of empathy and support from the UK. Sitting alongside you all in the pain and betrayal-grief of it all.
I've been sending similar messages to friends in the US and globally, pivoting away from reading more international analyses/predictions towards connecting with empathy. This is, at least, something I can do. Connection and empathy over fear.
Ha! I'm glad you got a kick out of that story. I almost deleted it :)
Thank you for the empathy and agree that's 1000% been the thing that feels the best to me right now! We are all going to just have to be more soft, more empathetic, more caring, more all the things that our leadership will not be. xoxo

Genius...I'm now laughing through the tears🩵 I grabbing my chalk & investing in tiny Tr*m* flags and heading out to find dog shit.
HAHAHA

Aw thanks so much, Kimberlee. Hang in there. It's harder when you're not surrounded by like-minded people, but you are not alone.

Sending so much love your way. So glad to be in community with such fierce, compassionate humans 💜💜
You too! Thank you for all that you do.
We MUST hang together for each other. Decent people are in shock and devastated
They are and there are so, so many people like this.
