I love this post so much because, once again, you have done the actual research into the absolute fact-based reality. You are so spot on with every single thing here. One thing I’ve been wondering about, apropos of Trump controlling the narrative, is that everytime he says something about DEI, is whether we should just respond as though he was speaking some kind of nonsense language or saying something about cauliflower. Like how do we respond without becoming exhausted arguing with all his hate?

TY so much!

Anand’s whole piece is about this question. Basically he’s like control the narrative and ffs do not consent to the convo on his terms and amplify it.

The fact we still haven’t figured this out after the first four years is dismaying!

The stretch in logic to believe that DEI caused a plane crash is abhorrent! And yet... we know there are people that believe this pandering nonsense. Thank you, as always, Lane, thank you.

Thanks Lane. I especially appreciate your listing of all of the benefits and achievements of DEI over these many years.

I learn so much from you every time. I think of Ivy League schools as bastions of progressivism (at least compared to the red state where I live); my mind is blown that Columbia didn’t admit women until the 80s!

Thanks so much Kimberly! What a kind thing to say. To be fair, part of the reason for this I'm sure is bc Columbia has an all-women's sister college across the street (Barnard). So I'm sure they felt like it was pretty much co-ed...but it's still weird if you ask me!

Also, I know what you mean (born and raised in a red state, etc.). But I always have to remind myself that the Ivy's were created by and for wealthy land owners in NE back in the day, in order to consolidate and create pipelines of power for wealth and power for those same groups. So "equity and diversity" are still relatively new concepts in those spaces, and by many measures they are still enclaves for the wealthy and powerful...

Oh, I forgot about Barnard! And you make a good point about elite institutions working to consolidate and expand power. There’s a reason Harvard is sitting on a $53 billion endowment fund!

Yep!

During his hearing when Kavanaugh claimed he got into Yale "with no connections" I loled for real. Bc he grew up going to elite prep schools and his parents are well-connected in DC. Not exactly a "merit" case. What he meant was: my parents didn't actually make phone calls and get me in, or get me in on just legacy, which is exactly what often happens in circles like his.

Unfortunately nothing will change because of lying media and news organizations. They are just saying that race equality doesn't equal talent, intelligence or qualifications. Basically that it went too far where it overrode basic common sense which was a bridge too far for most. The seperation in this country is due to dueling ideologies where both sides think they are righteous, decent and morally superior but those divisions never ever get solved until Christ erases those from the mind. Collective consciousness in the way one is supposed to live won't happen until you are at the foot of the Lord. People can dice that up any way they wish but think about it for a few. The utopian world many wish to see can't and won't happen because the more standards of decency are ( lowered ) which is usually oblivious to the offended population the more revolt will happen to push it out of existence even further. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Change will never be forced upon human beings out of the pleas and demands of the ones who want a free society with no lines or borders whatsoever. The world isn't ready for that and most places in the world are even less welcoming to those viewpoints, lifestyles, ideals etc. Just for for thought.
