This is so relatable, I actually happened to be on family trip and off screens when the flooding happened, and when I heard I just couldn’t bring myself to read about it at all. Just so sad.

At the same time I normally consume a lot of news and these strategies are really good for not letting it take over!

Thank you for reading! I think we as readers and writers, as well as newsrooms have a lot of work to do to not focus just on the overwhelm but also what what’s working and where. Also, a news diet sounds like a vacation essential!

Yes we were at a mountain cabin for the 4th and my husband’s aunt mentioned Camp Mystic to everyone in passing but I didn’t look at anything until I got home. Very tough stories to read and I haven’t read many. These strategies are very helpful and I like the sound of this magazine for my kids too! We have had a lot of flash flooding near us in NC and my kids got somewhat scared because of the Texas stories.

Thanks for reading Elizabeth! Yes I cannot say enough about The Week Jr. We really love it. And teaching a kid to be a thoughtful news consumer (and not a compulsive doomscroller!) I think is such a great gift. But it takes some strategies! Glad these were helpful!

Same Elizabeth, part of it is the emotional drag on me, part of it is figuring out how to deal w the effects on my kid ❤️
